Free! I, Dalton Lewis, am releasing my new novel, A.R.T.S.: At-Risk Teen Supers, for free for the next five days. It’s free! I just want to get the word out. I want people to give it a chance and give it a fair review. Sounds good, right? I think it sounds great.
Honesty.
This novel hasn’t sold much yet.
I worked for two months on this book — writing just about every day. I wrote it slowly and carefully, taking care to not rush the whole thing. This novel represents an enormous amount of effort and work and I don’t want it to be ignored.
First day: zero copies sold.
Zero.
Ouch.
I think it’s pretty good, really. It’s about four wonderful teen supers. They go on great adventures and fight bad guys and save people from terrible situations.
It’s a positive, optimistic view of the future: a refreshing change of pace when compared to all the grimdark apocalyptic dystopian futures that people create. Dark isn’t necessarily good, people.
I create stories that I care about. I use writing to express all the things I cannot say in my real life. These stories mean something to me, and when no one gives them a chance — that hurts me.
I know that thousands of people write books and compete for your money and time. That’s an unfortunate reality. As for me — I work like crazy to make my stories as fun, intelligent, and surprising as possible. I don’t care if I never win the Pulitzer Prize — I want people to read my novels and feel something.
So what does a disastrously bad career entail?

It’s something to build on — something to continue to work towards improving. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Let’s see where it goes.
Thanks, and take care, friends.
